As we continue down this path We observe Mother Nature’s wrath. Her body is ravaged As we annihilate and damage All that she is All that she was All that she could be. We tear her apart And rip open her heart. We pollute her seas Unable to breathe She screams from beneath And erupts. Hurricanes explode Earthquakes unfold A site to behold. Mother! Oh please! We’ve got no where to flee. Destined to be Planetary refugees.

I mourn for democracy that has been wrought with presidential lies.
I mourn for my country that was once led with truth, justice, and reason. I mourn for my children who will grow up in the land of the caged and afraid. I mourn for my fellow countrymen, as we become torn apart by hatred and bigotry. I mourn as the “American Dream” has become a nightmare for too many. Tonight I mourn. Tomorrow, I fight. Vile vulgarity, Grabby little hands, Compulsive liar Sleazy senior Bullish braggart Repeat adulterer Litigious antagonizer Shameful shyster Impetuous racist Hotheaded narcissist Obese and obtuse Billionaire buffoon. An Unpresidented America. In a December 2016 Trump tweeted, “China steals United States Navy research drone in international waters - rips it out of water and takes it to China in unpresidented act”. Between Trump’s illiteracy, derogatory and vicious tweets, speeches, and recorded conversations, this is truly an “unpresidented” time in America.
Nepotism, Narcissism, Cronyism. Plutocracy, Hypocrisy. Corporatocracy. Kleptocracy. Destruction, Obstruction, Collusion. Oligarchy, Anarchy, Malarkey. Covfefe? Trump’s grammar in his speeches is at a 6th grade level, and is “very, very good…the best.” However, his presidency has brought forth a plethora of new vocabulary words into the media. I wanted to write a poem highlighting this interesting juxtaposition of literacy and illiteracy.
It’s all about the ratings And who comes out on top. Nevermind the lies and fear His red hat's just a prop. Used to sell deception Intimidation is his tool Paranoia of the press Makes it easier to fool. Extreme hyperbole Self-promotion off the chart Making America great As he tears her heart apart. Dangerously authoritarian His decisions are quite factious When the leader of our country Is an “Entertainment Fascist.” As I read this opinion piece, https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/01/comparing-fascism-donald-trump-historians-trumpism I was hit by the phrase of Trump as an “Entertainment Fascist.” As I listen to lie after lie come from Trump’s mouth, I am reminded of this quote by Adolf Hitler in his memoir, “Mein Kampf”: “All this was inspired by the principle – which is quite true in itself – that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes.”
With stricter punishments they dread education. Then we skip their names on job applications. Faced with hunger they run out of time, Left with no choice except a life of crime. Tossed in jail with no other options, Casualties of our own corruption. “Black Lives Matter!” we hear their voices. In a world that has given them so few choices. Our biases create their sad demise, And as far as I can truly surmise, Being white does have its special benefits When skin color becomes our main emphasis Please listen up and change our ways So as not to repeat our yesterdays. Upon reading the book "Just Mercy" by Brian Stevenson, he makes the claim that one in three male African American boys born in 2001 will be incarcerated during some time in their life. This statistic has been questioned, but it is still alarming even if it is 1 in 4, or 1 in 5. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/06/16/the-stale-statistic-that-one-in-three-black-males-has-a-chance-of-ending-up-in-jail/?utm_term=.864959a7f949
Research shows black children are punished more harshly for the same issues at school: http://getschooled.blog.myajc.com/2014/12/27/research-shows-black-students-punished-more-severely-why-dont-schools-believe-it-and-fix-it/ Research shows black named job applicants get fewer call backs than their white named counterparts: http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/mar/15/jalen-ross/black-name-resume-50-percent-less-likely-get-respo/ We mourn the loss of life As the hateful speech spews The alt-right’s angry actions Ignited like a fuse. The torches that they carried And the anger in their eyes. History repeats itself With the Nazi’s new reprise. It contaminates our country With their vile words of venom As they try so desperately To create a new world Armageddon. Even from our President, The leader of our land, Turning the deadly protest Into his personal grandstand. In Charlottesville we saw The havoc that can wreak When the President of our country Doesn’t think before he speaks. I wrote this after reading the news story about the death of Heather Heyer during the Charlottesville protests and counterprotests. Her mother refused to speak to the President, stating he should “Think before you speak”. http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/18/politics/heather-heyer-susan-bro-donald-trump/index.html
