It’s time we take precautions
During this global mass pandemic As we see American ignorance Becoming quite systemic. Refusing to wear masks To protect us from this virus As they scream of pride and freedom Uninformed political bias. Spreading deadly germs and hate No one must dare oppose them Because their “patriotic pride” And the stupidity of some. So let’s wash our hands of idiots Who refuse to trust in science Disinfect our country of this purge A bleach and light alliance. The President suggested it Let’s give him what he wants See how great it kills Corona A wise leadership response. He’s such a brilliant man He says so all the time Don’t question his authority He’s a leader who’s sublime.

There’s a Covidiot in the House
He’s making quite a mess His incessant foolish rambles Are causing great distress. Injecting bleach and UV Lights His suggestions are absurd Our country is in shambles With every uttered word. Amidst a global mass pandemic This virus is contagious And if it doesn’t kill us His words are just as dangerous. How do we save America From the Covidiot in the House? It’s time for a deep cleaning To eliminate the louse. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/trump-suggests-injecting-disinfectant-to-fight-coronavirus/ May God have mercy on us
For what we did that day When “Fat Man” was deployed To the startled world’s dismay. Killing 80,000 Bombs don’t discriminate It doesn’t know the difference It just incinerates. The horror it incurred The bodies left behind The ash The flames The suffering The source of its design. We built this bomb We let it drop We failed humanity. We didn’t pause We didn’t stop Question its morality. "Fat Man" was the codename for the atomic bomb the U.S. dropped on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Man “Freedom gas for everyone!
Freedom gas the cure! Freedom gas our savior! Freedom gas fervour!" “Everyone needs freedom gas It’s the greatest in the land!” ‘Cuz everything is better The less you understand. Rebranding what is toxic Renaming harmful smoke In hopes that we can sell it So business won’t go broke. ‘Cuz no one really wants it They’ve found a better way But we’re trying something different In hopes that we may sway. We won’t be free at all When our air is too polluted And the dangers that occur When facts get convoluted. Our planet will continue To get hotter every year Let’s use renewable power To save our green blue sphere. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/freedom-gas-us-energy-department-refers-to-natural-gas-as-freedom-gas-in-new-press-release/ They don’t tell you this in school
They skip over most of it The reality of what happened And the terror we inflicted. Avoiding the conversation The truth of what we did Multitudes of casualties Including women, babies, kids. When we dropped the atomic bomb We stopped hatred in its tracks Our fear and anger vanquished In our monstrous attack. The explosion felt for miles As the ceaseless fires burned We murdered innocent lives Condoned as war adjourned. Weapons of mass genocide We slaughtered them with ease And those who didn’t die Were injured and diseased. The blood, the flames, the screams Burning flesh the strongest smell As ash flew all around them Immersed in Dante’s hell. We did this to Japan We did this to its people There’s no winner in a war When it’s evil vs. evil. I wrote this poem after watching a National Geographic documentary the affects of the US dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIs4TLRA1dU As I read the book, “The Age of American Unreason” Susan Jacoby spoke about Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay, “The American Scholar” (aka: “Man Thinking”). I began to research the essay and was truly inspired. One year after giving this speech Emerson cut his ties with organized religion when he spoke to the Harvard Divinity School’s faculty basically saying that it is only through an individual’s soul search for truth and not through church teachings that one will find salvation. Emerson’s insight
Into the mind of man Came at the perfect time As America began Use our country as a muse Create a life of change History, science, poetry All thoughts we should exchange He calls upon the scholars To use their intellect Their desire for education They never should neglect In nature you’ll find wisdom And in science search for facts With the right books one will learn From our world’s historical acts. Always seek ideas, An individualized truth, Because our country’s future Begins within our youth. Rational thought and knowledge Should guide us politically Because nothing in the world can stop A man thinking critically Government’s no longer,
What it used to be. Intelligence and logic, Are now a scarcity. Politics for profit. Big business runs the land. A powerful partnership, Now go hand in hand. Missing is democracy, A land ruled by its people. Where everyone’s considered, Not only free but equal. Corporate corruption, And their powerful agenda, Polluting sacred soil, With misleading propaganda. Politicians getting money, That is financed by the PACs. There’s no interest for the truth, Or scientific facts. Fear and fake news guide, Our lost democracy. The righteous and the pious, Of this grand hypocrisy. As our political leaders listen to conspiracy theorists, actors, and church leaders; and the media gives their voices with the same amount of weight as scientists & educators with regards to factual information about climate change, health issues, reproductive rights, etc, I found myself writing: "It Makes No Sense" Cough! Cough! Oh No!
I’m getting sick I’d better call a plumber. Zip! Zap! Oh damn! This is a scam. I’d better call a barber. Snip! Snip! Oh shit! This hose now drips. I’d better call a butcher. Clank! Clunk! Oh fuck! That was my truck. I’d better call a waiter. Why oh Why Would I try To ask a fool for aid It’s the truth And quite uncouth, My dear, you’ve just been played The media wants ratings The actors want their wealth And not one really cares About your issues or your health. Giving voices to the ignorant Illiterate, unschooled Truth no longer matters It’s the ratings that will rule. So ask an expert for advice If it’s knowledge that you seek Because it’s education from that with which they speak. |
