Restrict our anatomy
With legal deception Restrict our rights To buy contraceptives Restrict our clinics With undue cause Restrict our doctors With burdensome laws Restrict our healthcare By cutting the budget Restrict our souls With religious judgement Restrict our futures When you limit our body Restrict our lives That you politic and lobby Restrict our access By closing locations Restrict our choice With misinformation Restrict our freedom Dishonor the nation. With each restriction you close a door Making us prisoners of A reproductive war

“Life” isn’t just about giving birth
There’s a whole lot to it, for what it’s worth. A mother knows that “life” is much more Than poking through the vaginal canal door. It’s about being there for every moment A time of giving and total enjoyment. We want to provide the best for our children To create the brightest and kindest civilian. We give of ourselves with utmost devotion Our tears and our hugs filled with every emotion. To live is much more than just being born To live is to devote a life that you’ve sworn To being the best you can possibly be For your child you love most tenderly. But to do this we must be able to choose When to start a family and not to confuse It with just giving birth, ‘Cuz for what it’s worth Pro-life isn’t life if you don’t have your freedom. And it’s certainly not right if you have to deceive them By telling us lies about abortions, our bodies. Paying billions of dollars to politic and lobby For the rights to our bodies and wombs like they’re objects Not part of a person that deserves your respect. Prostitutes and whores are now how you see us Must be nice to have freedom that comes with a penis. Let’s call it what it is, and that’s “forced-birth” ‘Cuz “pro-life” is a lie, and for what it’s worth, Please tell me again how I don’t have the right To argue or complain or put up a fight When you try to decide what is right for MY body Then wonder why I’m frustrated and ornery Stop controlling my reproductive autonomy Instead focus on regulating the economy And doing those things that government should do And stay out of my womb and my pink canoe. (*This poem was inspired from a story in the book, "Life's Work" by Dr. Willie Parker. In it he recalls growing up in the South and attending church. One Sunday a young girl had to come in front of the congregation and confess her sins of getting pregnant. ) In church, she abides, And walks down the aisle. Standing alone, She forces a smile. Her white flowing dress, A symbol of purity. Her legs are trembling, With insecurity. Her gentle voice cracks, As she softly speaks. Her hands start to shake, And her knees are weak. The judgement begins, While the women sigh, Crystal tears fall, From the sides of her eyes. I began to contemplate, What I already knew, As with all procreation, It requires two. So where was the man, Who created all this? And why was he allowed, To be so remiss? It doesn’t seem right, To shame and judge her, When given no choice, To become a mother. http://www.naralva.org/what-is-choice/cpc/common-lies.shtml Our reproductive rights
They try to control At Crisis Centers these Are the lies we are told About abortions and our birth control Restricting our rights Is their one and main goal “ABORTION COSTS MORE THAN JUST GIVING BIRTH!” They lie and refuse To see we have worth. “ABORTION IS RISKY IT CAN KILL YOU - BEWARE!” They use these tactics To frighten and scare. “IT WILL CAUSE YOU ALL KINDS OF PERMANENT DAMAGE!” Our bodies and minds We can easily manage. “ABORTIONS PERMANENTLY WILL MAKE YOU INFERTILE!” These threats are untrue And are just another hurdle. “BREAST CANCER WILL HAPPEN IF YOU HAVE AN ABORTION!” Deceit and falsehoods Is their vile diversion. “THE FETUS FEELS PAIN WHEN THE PREGNANCY’S ENDED!” All truth and honesty Have been suspended. “YOU’VE GOT PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND!” As they pass more laws And our bodies confined. We are pissed and we’re angry When you tell us these lies Distorted with deception Cloaked in moral disguise Women visit these clinics For your help & guidance Instead you spread lies Not facts based on science. How deceptive and immoral Do you have to be To lie to the women Who seek honesty. (When reading the bible, it is quite apparent that women are not thought of much, nor thought of highly. Their main occupations in the Bible are as either wives, prostitutes, or objects with which to barter or rape. “The word and works of God is quite clear, that women were made either to be wives or prostitutes.” –Martin Luther, Reformer (1483-1546), Works 12.94 In the book “Life’s Work” Parker talks about how since the bible and onwards, men have continually, “thrown Eve under the bus”. ) Since the Bible first began
Life has been unjust Particularly for women When Eve became corrupt Women were just objects That men could buy or trade Wives or prostitutes Were how we were portrayed And poor ol’ Virgin Mary Abstinence be damned That sneaky pesky God With his quick and slight of “hand” Our job back then was clear Childbirth would be our penance Motherhood our only goal When God afflicted vengeance But things have changed since then We’re not so treasonous But men still try to throw Eve underneath the bus. |
